INTRODUCTION
General
San Joaquin County is submitting this first semester 2004 monitoring report for the Foothill
Sanitary Landfill (FSL) in compliance with Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) Order
No. R5-2003-0020.
The FSL is located in eastern San Joaquin Count on Waverly Road, four miles east of Linden,
q Y Y
CA(Figure 1). Land uses within 1,000 feet of the facility are agricultural. The vicinity receives
an average of about 18 inches of precipitation per year.
The Foothill Sanitary Landfill is a single Class III Waste Management Unit on an 800-acre parcel.
This Unit is comprised of Module "I",newly constructed Module 1, and future modules. Future
modules will overlap onto the completed modules until final closure of the Unit. The size of
future modules will be selected in accordance with the refuse disposal rate.
The total capacity of the landfill is approximately 102 million cubic yards. The active life of the
facility is estimated to allow disposal until year 2050,based on current disposal rates and
capacities (Table 1). The estimated service life will change if disposal rates differ significantly
than those predicted.
TABLE 1
FIRST SEMESTER 2004 MONTHLY REFUSE DISPOSAL
FOOTHILL SANITARY LANDFILL
MONTH REFUSE DISPOSAL
(TONS).
January 23,297
February 19,087
March 25,854
April 24,761
May 23,382
June 24,383
Geology
The first water bearing zone encountered is in sandy gravel at a depth of more than 200 feet.
Groundwater elevations range from approximately 46 to 61 feet MSL.
