E
5.5. SURROUNDING LAND AND GROUNDWATER USE
5.5.1. Land Use
Land use surrounding the landfill site is predominantly grazing land (Section 2.2.2).
5.5.2. Groundwater Use
Groundwater use on and surrounding the property is agricultural and domestic. The location of
wells in the vicinity of the landfill is shown in Appendix H. These wells also included the
County monitoring wells.
Eight wells were identified within 1 mile of the landfill site. The screened sections of these wells
vary between bottom depths of 255 feet to as deep as 467 feet. One well appears to be down
gradient, west-southwest of the site (review of California Department of Water Resources files
reported in "Report of Waste Discharge Related to the Permitting and Installation of Composite
Landfill Liner System for Module 1 and Future Modules", Emcon, 2002; and by Kleinfelder Inc.,
August 2004).
There are 4 wells on the landfill property. These include a domestic well, LW -1 and three
monitoring wells.
Foothill Sanitary Landfill
JTD
Page 29 of 62 Public Works/Solid Waste
County of San Joaquin — Revised 10/6/05
