The following average storage limits and capacities are presented below for various recyclable <br /> items: <br /> Item Quantity Storage Time <br /> Green Waste 60 Tons 48 Hours <br /> White Goods 20 Tons 48 Hours <br /> Metals 10 Tons 48 Hours <br /> Plastics 10 Tons 48 Hours <br /> 3.1.4.3 MATERIALS PROCESSING AND VOLUME REDUCTION <br /> The majority of the recyclable materials are manually separated and loaded in 40 CY containers <br /> for transportation to secondary markets. Volume reduction is achieved using by using a backhoe <br /> to spread and compact the materials. <br /> 3.1.4.4 MATERIALS REMOVAL <br /> Materials removal operations at the station are conducted on an ongoing basis. When a full <br /> shipment of recyclable materials is ready it is transported to a secondary materials market. The <br /> amount of materials and frequency of removal depends upon the composition of the recyclables, <br /> the amount of recyclable material recovered and the efficiency of sorting. <br /> During normal operating conditions municipal solid waste is processed the same working day. <br /> Mixed waste that is not processed by the end of the working day is left on the Transfer Station tip <br /> floor until it can be properly loaded into transfer trailers the next working day. In no case are <br /> materials allowed to be stored on site for a period of time which may result in the creation of a <br /> public health hazard, nuisance or fire hazard in accordance with 14 CCR, Section 17409.3 (c). <br /> 3.1.5 BURNING WASTES AND OPEN BURNING <br /> In accordance with 14 CCR, Section 17407.1 (a), if burning wastes are inadvertently received at <br /> the LMRF&TS they are separated from other wastes to a safe area away from the unloading, <br /> transfer and processing areas where it can be spread and extinguished. Open burning of solid <br /> waste at the LMRF&TS is prohibited in accordance with 14 CCR, Section 17407.1 (b). <br /> 3.1.6 HAZARDOUS, LIQUID AND SPECIAL WASTE EXCLUSION <br /> In accordance with 14 CCR, Section 17407.5 (b), the operator has implemented control measures <br /> as necessary to protect public health, safety and the environment. The operator conducts <br /> hazardous waste screening in the form of a random load-checking program.
