MONITORING PROGRAM
Water quality is monitored in accordance with WDR Order No. R5-2003-0020.
Groundwater
New groundwater monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-5 were installed during the fall of 2006. The
groundwater well network now consists of upgradient well MW-4 and downgradient wells MW-2R, MW-3,
and MW-5. MW-1, which had previously been considered the "upgradient"is found to be crossgradient
from the landfill, and not downgradient of any portion of the landfill. Therefore, this well is not needed at
this time for the evaluation of potential water quality impact by the landfill.
All monitoring wells are equipped with dedicated purge and sampling pumps.
Groundwater samples are analyzed semiannually for the following field and monitoring parameters as
specified in the WDRs:
• Temperature • Chloride
• Electrical Conductivity • Sulfate
• pH • Nitrate-Nitrogen
• Turbidity • Calcium
• Total Dissolved Solids • Magnesium
• Potassium • Sodium
• Carbonate Alkalinity • Bicarbonate Alkalinity
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Groundwater samples are analyzed every 5 years for the following Constituents of Concern(CDCs):
• Total Organic Carbon
• Inorganics (dissolved)
• VOCs (extended list)
• Semivolatile Organic Compounds
• Chlorophenexy Herbicides
• Organophosphorous Compounds
Groundwater samples were analyzed for COCs during the second semester 2009 monitoring event. The next
monitoring event for Groundwater COCs will occur during the second semester of 2014.
Monitoring well elevations are taken quarterly. Hydrographs are included in the second semester and annual
report in accordance with the current WDRs. These figures present the following elevations:
• Groundwater for each quarter
• Top and bottom of well screen
fe • Pump intake
Foothill Sanitary Landfill 8 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1 s'Semester 2012 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin—July 17,2012
