TRACK MOUNTED DRILL RIGS
OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
In this manual the four most important issues concerning the drilling division daily activities will
be covered. The activities are Mobilization, Drilling, Completion, and Demobilization. This
manual breaks down the activities to further explain important operating and maintenance issues.
At the end of the manual we have inserted the rigs safety sheets from their original
manuals these sheets need to be reviewed so that you understand the limits of your machine
while operating them.
This manual will refresh the drilling supervisor's thoughts before beginning the next project with
his crew. This manual is in the accordance with, but does not supercede, the Site Specific Health
& Safety Manual.
The work performed under our contracts fall under OSHA Level D protection (steel toed boots,
hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection).
Attached is an acknowledgment sign-off-sheet that states that the driller has read and has passed
the information along to his crewmembers. The driller and his crewmembers must sign off on
the acknowledgment sheet.
The signatures will confirm the importance of equipment maintenance and project operations are
understood.
Mobilization:
Staging Area:
Talk to the client to collectively come to an agreement on the Staging Area. The location should
be a flat area and free of traffic. If the area is close to the access road then the working area
should be coned and flagged off. This area includes the job trailer, well pipe, and fusing area.
The staging area should be neat at all times (no pipe shavings and trash)
Drill Rig Arrival:
The drill rig should be inspected before off loading the machine. If there are any damaged
valves or switches due to poor chain location, then is the time to make claim that the trucking
company is at fault.
