ENV/RONMENTAL <br />2.0 SrM HISTORY AND BACKGROUND TECHIVOLOCIES <br />2.1 Site Location <br />1 The Forward Waste Management Facility is located on Austin Road, seven miles southeast of <br />the City of Stockton in California. The south fork of Littlejohns Creek traverses the southern <br />portion of the 157 -acre site. The overall site location is shown in Attachment A and site details <br />are presented in Attachments B through E (see Appendix A). <br />Waste treatment, storage, and disposal have occurred on 60 acres of the site. The facility <br />currently contains eight Waste Management Units (WMUs), as detailed in Attachment B. Four <br />of these WMUs are inactive. The inactive units include three Class III landfill WMUs (planned <br />for closure, pending regulatory approval) and one closed Class I landfill WMU A, which <br />had formerly been a Class II -1 unit). <br />landfillThe active WMUs are presented in Attachment Q. This is a heterogenous• •• <br />composed of fan and floodplain deposits derived from Sierra granitics, metamorphic, and <br />volcanic.Geologicrials immediatelybeneath•ii <br />minor•o: : <br />f gravel. <br />The shallow ground water beneath the site is contained in the Victor Formation and recent <br />alluvium. Generally, these sediments have moderate permeabilities. Ground water in the Victor <br />Formation is unconfined, and flows in a north -northeasterly direction beneath the site. The <br />unit received permits to construct and operate before November 27, 1984, the effective date of <br />Subchapter 15.
