WMU D-99 Construction September 1999
Forward Landfill Job No.986011.02
5.0 GEOSYNTHETICS CONSTRUCTION
5.1 General Description of Activities
The geosynthetics components (from bottom to top) on the sideslopes of the
WMU D-99 liner system consisted of geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), 60-mil HDPE
geomembrane (smooth top and textured bottom), and geocomposite drainage net
(geotextile-geonet). The liner system was similar for the Eastern Ash Pit Closure with
some areas requiring double textured HDPE and a double nonwoven geocomposite.
The geosynthetics components (from bottom to top) on the WMU D-99 base consisted
of 60-mil HDPE textured geomembrane (smooth top and textured bottom) and 8-oz
filter geotextile. The geosynthetics components (from bottom to top) of the Leachate
Impoundment liner system consisted of geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), 60-mil secondary
HDPE geomembrane, geonet, and 60-mil primary HDPE geomembrane. The
installation and associated CQA provided for each of these components are discussed
within the following sections.
ANIL
5.2 Geosynthetics Preconstruction Meeting
An informal geosynthetics preconstruction meeting was conducted prior the
geomembrane installation between Forward, Inc., Guinn, GSE, and Vector. During this
meeting, schedules were discussed along with deployment procedures and
coordination with the Earthworks Contractor. The minutes of the geosynthetics
preconstruction meeting are included in the progress meeting minutes.
5.3 Geosynthetic Clay Liner(GCL) Installation
5.3.1 GCL Factory Quality Control
Upon arrival by truck shipment, the unloading and storage of the GCL rolls
were observed by Vector's CQA Monitors. Each roll of GCL was logged in by roll
number. Information regarding the roll number, lot, batch, laboratory testing log,
and pass/fail of the sheet was recorded. A copy of Vector's log of GCL received
has been included in Appendix J. Manufacturer's certifications are also
presented in Appendix J.
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 12438 Loma Rica Dr.,#C • Grass Valley, CA• (530)272-2448
-11-
