7.3 SURFACE WATER
7.3.1 SURFACE WATER PROTECTION
The only surface water bodies in the vicinity of the site are the North Branch and
South Branch of Little Johns Creek which are tributary to the San Joaquin River.
The North Branch flows along the southern-border of the existing Austin Road
Landfill, and the South Branch flows-along the southern border of the existing
Forward Landfill. The landfill development plans described in this JTD anticipate
that the course of the North Branch wil[ibe;reahgned ta„the .north.and west.of-the
Austin Road Landfill. Once the North Branch is realigned, the planned expansion
area footprint will be outside floodplain areas.
7.3.2 SURFACE WATER MONITORING
Surface water monitoring is completed quarterly at both the existing Austin Road
and Forward Landfills in accordance with each-site's WDR`s. MDnitoringis
performed for the North Branch and South Branch of Little Johns Creek for the
existing Austin Road and Forward Landfills, respectively (see Figure 7). Table 19
lists the surface water monitoring stations at the-site together vuith..their currentand
expected future use.
7.4 NPDES STORMWATER MONITORING PROGRAM
The existing Forward and Austin Road Landfills have stormwater monitoring
programs in place which comply with the State's National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System (NPDES) requirements. Storm Water Pollution Prevention
Plans(SWPPPs) have been prepared for the landfills as part of the State's NPDES
General Permit requirements for stormwater inspection, sampling, observations
and reporting. Stormwater sampling is required on two occasions each year
during the wet season, starting with the first rain that produces a significant
runoff flow. Updated plans for the combined facility Forward Landfill will be
prepared prior to the filling of those areas.
Forward Landfill JTD 7-10
L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\finaljtd:Sec-7.0:08/20/01 ®RYAN A.STIRRAT&ASSOCIATES
