As previously discussed in Section 5.2.7, the currently active LFGES installed on a
portion of the existing Austin Road Landfill will be expanded for the future fill
operations at the Forward Landfill (see Drawing 13). The proposed LFGES
includes horizontal and vertical extraction wells to comply with regulatory
standards. As the landfill expands, it is anticipated that most of the LFGES will be
installed, with the balance of the system completed as part of closure.
7.5.2 PERIMETER GAS MONITORING
The effectiveness of the LFGES will be rxionitored.through'.a.system of gas
migration probes. The current gas migration monitoring system at the Austin
Road Landfill consists of 12 perimeter gas.monitoring probes as,shown:on
Drawing 12. The Forward Landfill gas migration control monitoring system
consists of 10 perimeter gas monitoring probes. For the combined landfill,
probes SGP-2A, SGP-313, SGP-4A, GP-9, and GP-10 must be abandoned to
accommodate the expansion between the two landfills. Drawing 13 presents
the locations of the perimeter gas monitoring probes for the°combinediandfill
footprint. New multi-depth perimeter probes, if required, will be installed to
monitor and fulfill regulatory standards for subsurface migration, as required
by the applicable local, state, and federal regulations (i.e,, Article 6 of Title 27
CCR).
The probes will be monitored in accordance with the schedule presented in
Section 7.5.4 to determine if the LFG is migrating laterally through the soil away
from the landfill. When compliance levels are exceeded in any probe,
adjustments to the LFGES will be initiated and/ or additional extraction wells will
be installed where migrating gas is detected, if required.
7.5.3 GAS CONDENSATE COLLECTION SYSTEM
As landfill gas cools within LFGES piping, condensate is formed. Condensate
generation is dependent upon gas flow and variations in ambient temperatures.
Along with the LFGES, a condensate management system will be designed to
handle condensate that collects in the low points of the LFGES piping. Sump
pump stations will be utilized to transfer condensate from these low points to a
holding tank located at the flare station. The holding tank(s) can be emptied
Forward Landfill jTD 7-12
L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\finaljtd:Sec-7.0:08/20/01 BRYAN A.STIRRAT S ASSOCIATES
