LJI
7
LI
C'
C
i
0
WMU ART -03 May 2003
Forward Landfill Project No. 021605.02
2.0 WMU ART -03 CONSTRUCTION
During the construction of WMU ART -03, Guinn installed all the components of the
system. As this construction commenced, Vector performed site visits to conduct CQA
monitoring. The elements monitored by Vector and discussed within this section
include general fill, grading, geotextile placement, LCRS granular drainage layer
placement, and protective operations soil placement.
Project documentation was prepared by Vector as part of the CQA duties and consisted
of construction reports and a record of various test data sheets pertinent to the soil
components of the system. Copies of the original records are being maintained in the
Vector archive files in Grass Valley, California and can be made available to Allied or
the RWQCB upon request.
Construction reports detailing the work performed by Vector's CQA Monitor are
provided in Appendix A. Other CQA documentation with respect to test data and
observation sheets are discussed within each phase of the following sections.
2.1 Grading and General Fill
Guinn construction graded the existing surface to achieve the design grades and
constructed a perimeter berm around the WMU ART -03 area. The soil material used
for construction was obtained from an on-site borrow source and transported to the
WMU ART -03 area by scrapers, placed, and compacted.
In-place density tests were performed by Vectors CQA Monitor on the berm using a
nuclear density gauge. The material was tested at the specified frequency or greater
and found to meet the requirements of the specifications. Results of the testing
indicated that the material was placed to the minimum requirement of 85% relative
compaction. Summary of the field moisture/density testing is included in Table 1.
Vector Engineering, Inc.. 143E Spring Hill Drive . Grass Valley, CA . (530) 272-2448
1672
