7. After completion of the GDM layer, construction traffic shall be minimized to that absolutely necessary for placement of the overlying geotextile and Protective Operations Layer. No vehicles used for transporting the GDM or coarse gravel from the borrow source shall be allowed on top of the placed and compacted GDM layer except in areas where a minimum 12-inches of protective operations layer and geotextile have been placed above the GDM. 8. Placement of granular drainage materials on the geomembrane shall not proceed when the ambient temperature is less than 40 degrees F or more than 104 degrees F, unless approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. 9. Placement of granular drainage materials on the geomembrane shall be halted when wrinkling of the geomembrane becomes excessive enough, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, to damage the geomembrane. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR will not be compensated for any costs or delays resulting from this halt in Work and shall schedule granular drainage material placement at times when wrinkling of the geomembrane, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, is minimal. Approval by the QA/QC CONSULTANT of appropriate times for GDM placement does not absolve EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of responsibility for repairing any geomembrane lining material damages during GDM placement, at EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. C. Compaction Requirements: Compact using a minimum of two passes of a Caterpillar D4H low ground pressure dozer unless otherwise approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT or DESIGN ENGINEER prior to start of the Work. Approval does not absolve the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR of responsibilities for damage to the underlying geomembrane lining, at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense. D. Quality Control: 1. General: As the GDM is being placed, the QA/QC CONSULTANT will be monitoring the construction activities and soil properties. If tests conducted by the QA/QC CONSULTANT indicate that the GDM does not meet specified requirements, the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall terminate material placement until corrective measures are taken. 2. GDM Acceptance: Final acceptance of the GDM will be based on all tests made on completed Work on material samples taken from the completed layer, on leak location testing and repair, and on thickness as determined by the top of Clay Liner and top of GDM surveys. Testing for final acceptance shall be performed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in accordance with these Specifications and the CQA Manual. E. Protection: 1. Do not route construction traffic on top of GDM once material has been placed. 2. Constructed GDM shall be maintained to meet the requirements of this FORWARD LANDFILL 02300 20 EARTHWORK
