WMU FU -03, WMU F -West Leachate Impoundment and Desilting Basin February 2004
Forward Landfill Job No. 021605.03
performed sieve analysis tests on two (2) evaluation samples and four (4) construction
samples of the drainage gravel. In addition, Vector CQA Monitor performed sieve
analysis on two (2) evaluation samples and two (2) construction samples of the coarse
gravel fill.
The results of LCRS granular drainage material sieve analysis indicated 100% passing
the 3/8 -inch sieve and less than 3% passing the No. 200 sieve. The results of the
coarse gravel sieve analysis indicated 100% passing the 1 -inch sieve, maximum 30%
passing the 3/8 -inch sieve, maximum 5% passing the No. 4 sieve and maximum 2%
passing the No. 200 sieve.
Hydraulic conductivity testing of the granular drainage material indicated an average
flow rate of 5 cm/sec, which exceeds the requirement of 0.5 cm/sec. The hydraulic
conductivity testing results for the coarse gravel exceeded the laboratory equipment
capacity of 10 cm/sec, which exceeds the requirement of 5 cm/sec.
A summary of the laboratory testing conducted on the granular drainage layer and the
coarse gravel are presented in Tables 5 and 6, respectively. The laboratory test results
of the drainage gravel and coarse gravel testing are included in Appendix F and
Appendix G, respectively.
Table 5 — Granular Drainage Material Laboratory Testing Summary
SAMPLEGRAIN
NUMBER
DATE
SOIL DESCRIPTION
SIZE
3/8" -200%®
PERM.
K cm/sec
Specifications',
100%
43%
>0.1 cm/sec
Evaluation Testin
GCM -2E
3/8"
Pea Gravel
100
0
10
GDM -3E
3/8"
Pea Gravel
100
0.4
3
Construction Testing
GDM -1
3/8"
Pea Gravel
100
0.5
4
GDM -2
3/8"
Pea Gravel
100
0.3
4
GDM -3
3/8"
Pea Gravel
100
0.3
6
GDM -4
3/8"
Pea Gravel
100
0.5
3
0
Vector Engineering, Inc. - 143E Spring Hill Drive - Grass Valley, CA 95945 - (530) 272-2448
-16-
