WMIJ FLI-03, WMU F -West Leachate Impoundment and Desilting Basin February 2004 <br />Forward Landfill Job No. 021605.03 <br />5.0 GEOSYNTHETICS CQA <br />5.1 General Description of Activities <br />The geosynthetics components of WMU FU -03 and WMU F -West Leachate <br />Impoundment consisted of geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), 60 -mil HDPE geomembrane, <br />geocomposite, geonet, and geotextile. The installation and associated CQA provided <br />for each of these components are discussed within the following sections. Since the <br />construction method and CQA activities are the same for WMU FU -03 and the WMU <br />F -West Leachate Impoundment the detailed descriptions below for each component <br />applies to both areas. <br />5.2 Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) <br />5.2.1 General <br />The GCL used in the construction of WMU FU -03 and WMU F -West Leachate <br />Impoundment was manufactured by GSE. The type of GCL material utilized was <br />Bentofix NWL35, which consists of granular bentonite encapsulated by two non -woven <br />geotextiles. The supplier provided extra long rolls for the north 5:1 slope so as to avoid <br />40 horizontal seams on the slope. <br />C7 <br />5.2.2 GCL Manufacture and Delivery <br />5.2.2.1 Receiving Inspection <br />Upon arrival by truck shipment, Vector's CQA Monitor conducted the receiving <br />inspection that include labeling, transportation, handling, storage, and inventory as <br />discussed below. <br />Vector's CQA Monitor observed the unloading and storage of the GCL rolls and then <br />logged in each roll number. Information regarding the roll number, lot, batch, laboratory <br />testing, and pass/fail of the sheet was recorded.
