WMLI FLI-03, WMLI F -West Leachate Impoundment and Desilting Basin February 2004
Forward Landfill Job No. 021605.03
is 5.3.1.1 Receiving_ Inspection
C7
Upon arrival by truck shipment, Vector's CQA monitor observed the unloading and
storage of the geomembrane rolls. Each roll of geomembrane was logged in by roll
number and then crosschecked against the quality control documents provided by the
supplier. Following the inspection and approval of QC certifications, the material was
approved for installation. A copy of the log of geomembrane received has been
included in Appendix I. The manufacturer's QC data have also been included in
Appendix I.
5.3.1.2 CQA Conformance Testing
Select samples of the HDPE were cut from random rolls of the geomembrane at the
manufacturing plant by the third party testing laboratory for conformance testing in
accordance with the project specifications and CQA manual. Conformance testing
included:
• density (ASTM D-1505)
® carbon black content (ASTM D-1603)
• carbon black dispersion (ASTM D-5596)
• thickness (ASTM D-5994)
• tensile properties (ASTM D-638)
• asperity height (GRI GM -12)
• Interface shear strength testing
A total of eight (8) 60 -mil thick HDPE geomembrane samples were tested for
conformance. Based on 642,000 ft2 of HDPE received, this testing frequency
corresponds to one test per 80,000 ft2 which satisfies the requirement of one test per
100,000 ft2. Results of the conformance testing indicated that the materials met the
requirements of the project specifications.
In addition, large-scale direct shear testing was conducted on the clay/geomembrane
and geomembrane/geotextile interfaces (the GCL interface shear testing is discussed in
Section 5.1). For the geomembrane/geotextile interface, the results indicated that at
Vector Engineering, Inc. - 143E Spring Hill Drive • Grass Valley, CA 95945 • (530) 272-2448
-22-
