Stage 1A Partial Final Closure February 2006
Forward Landfill Project No.021605.06
Cover thickness and grade checking was performed by the Contractor on a
continual basis during construction of the closure. At the completion of the
cover construction, several test pits were excavated to determine the required
4-foot thickness was achieved. These test pits were excavated separately from
the steel plates, thereby verifying the required thickness was achieved. Vector's
CQA monitor observed the test pits and thickness verification. The test pits were
backfilled and compacted per project specifications.
Settlement markers were also installed on the final cover to monitor settlement
with time.
4.3 Granular Drainage Material
The granular drainage material was placed in the seep collectors of the Stage
lA closure. The granular drainage material satisfied the project specifications.
No conformance testing was required on the granular drainage material. The
granular drainage material was obtained from an off-site source. The granular
drainage gravel was placed directly in the seep collector over the geomembrane.
Vector's CQA Monitor continuously observed the placement of these materials
to ensure no damage occurred to the underlying geosynthetics.
4.4 Erosion and Sediment Control
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the construction of the surface drainage
features required to accommodate the run-on and run-off flows. The drainage
control features included various v-ditches, berms and downchutes.
Downchutes were constructed using asphalt concrete. Vector's CQA Monitor
observed the drainage feature construction to ensure the requirements of the
project drawings and specifications were satisfied.
Vector Engineering, Inc.• 143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley, CA 95945•(530)272-2448
-15-
