3.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
The test program described herein was successful, in achieving the goal of
developing in-place density information for the selected ADC materials. The
authors feel that this program could be duplicated at other sites, and that the results
yielded could be repeated within a reasonably small range.
Thickness measurements require some judgment to determine just where cover
stops and MSW starts, due to the heterogeneous nature of MSW and the somewhat
rough surface to which the ADC is applied. It should also be noted that California
standards for the application of greenwaste ADC call for an average thickness of
between 6" and 12". Both test plots constructed with greenwaste resulted in > 12"
average thickness.
A summary of the test results are presented below:
Shredded greenwaste density had a range of 110.3 Ib/cy, an average of
776.3 Ib/cy, a standard deviation of 78.0 Ib/cy and a coefficient of variation
of 10.05%. A possible explanation for this variation is that since the lower
result was produced on the sloped test plot, the shredded greenwaste
compacts less readily on a slope than it does on a flat deck.
TASW density had a range of 88.6 Ib/cy, an average of 1,124.8 Ib/cy, a
standard deviation of 62.65 Ib/cy, and a coefficient of variation of 5.57%.
These measures indicate that placement and compaction of TASW was very
consistent during this test program. While TASW showed higher density on
the sloped test plot, no conclusion should be drawn without further testing
and a larger statistical population.
The results from the ADC Test Program conducted on October 11 and 12, 2006,
provide the necessary data to finalize the JTD Amendment. Allied and BAS are
ready to meet with the LEA to integrate the results of this ADC field testing into a
Joint Technical Document (JTD) Amendment. Allied will then prepare and submit
the JTD Amendment to comply with 27 CCR and reconcile LEA concerns with ADC
usage at the FL.
3-1
J:\A11ied\Forward\2006.0154 ADC Test\ADC Test Report\Final ADC Test Report Sec 3.doc
