Sampling Equipment
lei;
Interim gas sampling probes were used to monitor subsurface gases at the landfill
.perimeter.
Each probe consists of a S-faot long, %-inch diameter stainless steel pipe, with %-inch holes
staggered every 2 inches at the bottom 18 inches to allow for gases to migrate into the probes. A
pointed tip was welded to the end of the probe for better penetration
A ball valve and brass fitting were installed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrument hook-up to the probe. The valves were left closed dkcept during monitoring
or instrument reading. Each probe is tagged with-a brass piste and identified w "Gp-l" through
-dP-10".
A GA-90 Landtec Infra-red•Cress Analyzer was used to monitor methane, carbon.dioxide.(Co..,),
and oxygen(0.)levels at each probe location The analyzer was calibrated for methane, COs,and
02 prior to use in the field_Calibration.logs are.included.in thisreport.
Gas Monitoring
Ambient air measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxl
ie; and barometYic pressure were T
taken at each gas probe ior.tion. ?hose readings were recorded and-the ins;nrment° was ,`
connected to the probe- The valve was opened and probe-gas pressure measurements were Laken._
The probe was then. purged fortwo- probe volumes. .Readings•were thea collected at
`a1iPr0xh nat4y 3.0- to 60-.=ad intervals,-unW..a" stable•ieading was .obtained.: These
-mcasurcments of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ambient barometric pressaxr vire then -
recorded. Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in three building sites for the =
presence of methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office tray-lei-at the entrance to the
landfill, trailer boxes- at the service shop, aid trailer boxes at the transfer building. These
locations were monitored for any gas pockets at the foundation and near any opening from the
floor such as piping holes, electrical conduits,or floor cracks.
LYSWETERS
Lysimeters were sampled using the following standard protocol:
1- Prior to sampling lys='eters, the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked•and cleaned.
Z-42394940 1\23 I opiz A•12 3Uly 14,2000
CoPi(Ick 2000 xkwcwer.to,
