Sampling Equipment
Interim gas sampling probes were used to monitor subsurface ases at the landfill
g .perimeter.
Each probe consists of a 5-foot long, grinch diameter stainless steel pipe, with y inch holes
staggered every 2 inches at the bottom 18 inches to allow for gases:to migrate into the probcs. A
pointed tip was welded to the cud of the probe for better penetration
A ball valve and brass fitting were installed at the top of each probe to contain gas pressures and
facilitate instrument hook-up to the probe. The valves vera left closed e6ccept during monitoring
or instrument reading. Each probe is tagged with-a brass plate and identified as "GP-1" through
"GP-10". • .
AGA-90 Landtec Infra-md•Gas Analyzer was used to monitor nethan-, carbon.dioxide.(CO,),
and oxygen(02)Ievels at each probe location. The analyzer was calibrated for methane,CO2,and
Oz prior to use in the field-Calibration.logs are.ineluded.in this report,
Gas Monitoring -
Ambient air measurements of methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide; and barome#ric•pressum.were'. "
taken at each gas probe location. Those readings were recorded and the instrument, was
connected to the probe. 'Ihe valve was opened and probe.gss pressure mets were taken._
The probe was then. purged fortwo. probe volumes. Re:adungs-were then collected at
approximately 3.0- to 60-secoad fixtcrvats.'until_.a stable reading was obtained._. These
xneasMvnIents of methane, oxygen, carbon dimade„and ambient barometric pressure were then -
recorded. Monitoring was also conducted at various locations in three building sites for the -
prest-ni a of methane gas. Monitoring was conducted at the office trailer at the entrance to the
laudfin, trailer boxesat the service shop, grid trailer boxes at the transfer building. Tbese
locations were monitored for any'gas pockets at the foundation and near any opening from the -
floor sztch as piping holes, electrical conduits,or Poor cracks.
LYSWETERS
Lysime'tcis were sampled using the following standard protocol:
1. Prior to sampling lysimeters, the pressure-vacuum equipment is checked•and cleaned,
Z3-483849-Fo IU3lap-lap-TZ -12 1 .
2000 K1eiatClder.los,
'" July 14.2000
