Borehole Log and Monitoring Well Construction Summary
Austin Road Landfill, Manteca, California Page 2
2.0 DRILING AND CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
2.1 Borehole Drilling
During the drilling phase of this project, four boreholes were drilled and monitoring wells
installed. The following table, Table 2, provides a reference for the details of each borehole.
Monitoring Well As-Built diagrams further describe the details and materials associated with
each monitoring well completion (Appendix A). Figure 1 illustrates the well locations.
Table 2
Borehole Details
Borehole/Monitoring Drilling Borehole Total General Location
Well ID Dates Diameter Depth
Approximately 2700 ft east of Newcastle
AMW-13B 11/14-17/2008 8 inch 139 ft bgs Rd.along southern NCYCC outer
security perimeter road.
Approximately 500 ft east of Newcastle
AMW-21 11/4-12/2008 8 inch 141 ft bgs Rd.along southern NCYCC outer
security perimeter road.
Approximately 500 ft south of NCYCC
AMW-22 12/1-4/2008 8 inch 139 ft bgs sewage lift station between the two
south correctional pods.
Approximately 100 ft west of center
AMW-23 11/19-20/2008 8 inch 184 ft bgs point access gate along the eastern
NCYCC security perimeter fence.
2.2 Stratigraphy
Soil sampling for each borehole was conducted as follows:
AMW-1313: 18 inch hammer driven split-spoon soil sampling began after 75 feet of borehole
had been drilled and continued every 5 feet throughout the remainder of the
borehole. Continuous logging of cuttings for the remainder of the borehole also
commenced after 75 feet of drilling.
AMW-21: 18 inch hammer driven split-spoon soil sampling began at the ground surface and
continued every 5 feet throughout the remainder of the borehole. Continuous
logging of cuttings also commenced at ground surface.
AMW-22: 18 inch hammer driven split-spoon soil sampling began after 75 feet of borehole
had been drilled and continued every 5 feet throughout the remainder of the
borehole. Continuous logging of cuttings for the remainder of the borehole also
commenced after 75 feet of drilling.
AMW-23: 18 inch hammer driven split-spoon soil sampling began after 75 feet of borehole
had been drilled and continued every 5 feet throughout the remainder of the
borehole except for the following depth ranges which were logged by cuttings
only; 150-155, 160-170, and 175-185 due to consistent geology. Continuous
logging of cuttings for the remainder of the borehole also commenced after 75
feet of drilling.
