Upper Northern Portion of WMU FU-08 September 2009
Forward Landfill Project No.021605.09
4.3 Geotextile Installation
A 7-oz. nonwoven geotextile supplied by Skaps was placed above and below the
granular drainage layer of the northern portion of the WMU FU-08. In addition,
the geotextile was used to encapsulate the coarse drainage rock and HDPE pipe
located in the leachate collection trenches.
Upon arrival of the geotextile, Vector's CQA Monitor recorded the roll numbers
delivered to the site and cross referenced them to the manufacturer's certifications.
Manufacturer's certifications for the geotextile were reviewed prior to installation.
Review of the manufacturer's certifications indicates that the material meets the
project specifications. Copies of the geotextile receiving log and the geotextile
manufacturer's certifications are included in Appendix D.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the deployment procedure and verified that the
geotextile placement was completed in accordance with the CQA plan and
specifications.
CQA Conformance Testing
Select samples of the geotextile were cut from random rolls of the geotextile at the
manufacturing plant by the third party testing laboratory for conformance testing
in accordance with the project specifications and CQA manual. Conformance testing
included:
• Weight (ASTM D5261); and
• Grab Tensile Strength (ASTM 4632).
A total of sixteen (16) 7 oz/yd2 geotextile samples were tested for conformance.
Based on 1,579,500 ft2 of geotextile required for the upper northern portion for the
FU-08 project, this testing frequency of 1 per 98,720 ft2 satisfies the requirement of
one test per 100,000 ft2. Results of the conformance testing indicated that the
Vector Engineering,Inc.• 143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley,CA 95945•(530)272-2448
-15-
