WMU D-88 A/B. Freeboard at WMU-F ranged from approximately 11.0 feet to 11.92
feet during the first quarter 2010 monitoring period. Appendix A presents copies of the
leachate logs and the freeboard observation logs.
Leachate samples were collected on a monthly basis and analyzed in the field for pH and
specific conductance. Results of monthly field monitoring measurements for the first
quarter 2010 are presented in Table 2-6.
2.2 SUMMARY
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the first quarter 2010
monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring periods.
During the first quarter 2010 monitoring period, 18 new historical intrawell maximum
values were measured in samples collected from groundwater monitoring wells.
However,the new maximum values slightly exceeded the previous maximum values. In
addition, two of the intrawell maximum values are suspected field/laboratory
contaminants. Excluding suspected field/laboratory contaminants (acetone and toluene),
DCDFM and TCFM were measured above the PQL, and 1,1-DCA, PCE, and TCE were
detected at estimated trace concentrations in the sample collected from well MW-10;
PCE and TCE were measured above the PQL, and 1,1-DCA, cis-1,2-DCE, DCDFM, and
TCFM were detected at trace concentrations in the sample collected from well MW-14;
DCDFM and TCFM were measured at trace concentrations in the sample collected from
well MW-15; and carbon disulfide was measured at a trace concentration in the sample
collected from well MW-19. CLs were exceeded for one or more monitoring parameters
in samples from four wells. In accordance with the RPCMP, inorganic exceedances of
CLs that are potential impact constituents will be resampled in May 2010 (during the
second quarter 2010 sampling event), and a second independent sample will be collected
in June 2010. The results of the two retests will be submitted to DTSC and RWQCB
under separate cover.
During the February and March 2010 inspections, the CEHD measured methane
concentrations exceeding the regulatory limit of five percent in perimeter soil-pore gas
probe GP-11 for the shallow and/or intermediate depth probes. Forward continues to
install additional landfill gas extraction wells (as needed), and makes regular adjustments
to the landfill gas extraction system to optimize efficiency of the landfill gas extraction
system.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 WATER QUALITY MONITORING
3.1.1 Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
During the first quarter 2010, depth-to-water measurements were recorded in the
groundwater monitoring wells on March 24, 2010 and the Austin Unit's DMP and CAP
MU0100013TA 1Q10.doc
8 Geologic Associates
