Forward Landfill
Gas Probe Monitoring Report
DRILLING
BAS contracted Test America Drilling Corporation (TA) out of Sacramento, California, a
C-57 licensed drilling company, to perform the drilling activities. BAS coordinated the
drilling activities with EHD, the local enforcement agency(LEA). Mr. Robert McClellon,
a Program Coordinator RENS, with EHD, was contacted prior to starting drilling
operations and was on site to witness construction of both perimeter landfill gas probes.
A copy of the Well Permit Application signed by Mr. McClellon after completing the
probe construction inspection is presented as Attachment A.
On September 9, 2009, TA drilled two (2) on-site borings (GP-26 and GP-27) along the
Forward perimeter, property boundary at locations shown on Figure 2, using a CME-75
hollow stem auger drill rig. Borings were advanced at each location to an elevation
equal to the seasonal low water table elevation as determined by SCS. Boring GP-26
was drilled to a total depth of 26 feet bgs and GP-27 was drilled to a total depth of 36
feet bgs. During drilling operations, grab samples of soil cuttings were collected from
the auger flights and logged by a Professional Geologist (PG) registered with the State
of California in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System [USCS (ASTM
Method D2488)]. Lithologies, soil classifications, and other relevant boring and probe
construction information is summarized on boring logs, which are included in
Attachment B.
Soil cuttings generated during drilling operations were disposed of on-site. The augers
were decontaminated prior to use and between borings by pressure washing the flights
and inside the auger to remove soil, and any residual debris.
PROBE CONSTRUCTION
Both borings (GP-26 and GP-27) were converted to multiple casing perimeter probes.
GP-26, a dual completion perimeter probe, has two screen intervals, from 5 feet to 10
feet bgs and 16 feet to 26.5 feet bgs. GP-27, a triple completion, has three screen
intervals from 5 feet to 10 feet bgs, 16 feet to 21 feet bgs, and 30 feet to 35 feet bgs.
All perimeter probes were constructed of 3/4-inch diameter, Schedule 80 PVC blank
casing, and Schedule 80 PVC screened casing with a slot size of 0.020". Blank casing
was installed from the ground surface to the top of each screened interval depending
3 BRYAN A.STIRRAT S ASSOCIATES
(J:\Republic Services\Forward\2009.0087 Probe CQA\Report\Probe Installation Report.docm:01/19/10)
