! 9 -
characterize the soil profile on the subject site. Decisions on the samples to be selected will be
based on the distribution of constituent concentrations and in particular those locations with an
elevated concentration of one or more constituents. It should be noted that a few of the tests
require analysis within a short time and may have exceeded the analytical method holding time
for this second phase of analytical tests, and therefore, would not be included in this second
phase of potential analyses.
2.2.2 Soil Testing
As presented above, samples will be analyzed for TOC, Electrical Conductivity, BOD, Total
Nitrogen, Sodium, Chloride, Sulfate, TPH-GRO/DRO (C6 -C28), and pH. Based on the metals
identified in the rinsate sample, soil samples will also be analyzed for several heavy metals,
including aluminum, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, selenium and vanadium.
The data from these analyses will be used to characterize the soil represented by the sample.
2.2.3 Health and Safety
A worker health and safety plan will be implemented during the course of this investigation.
Since the pilot project area is in native soils (i.e. it has not been used for disposal), relatively
low levels of the proposed constituents are expected. Even though the soils are not expected
to contain constituents or chemicals that would pose a health hazard to the workers, personal
protective equipment may be worn as deemed appropriate by the Project Manager or field
personnel. PPE may include: disposable coveralls, chemical -resistant inner gloves, leather
outer gloves, steel -toed boots, safety glasses, and hard hats. The level of required PPE will be
determined at the start of each day based on weather conditions and the work to be
conducted.
WFORWARD LANDFILL LAND APPLICATION 6
