can be correlated to the sample location and date. On-site samples will be labeled YR -MO -
DAY -Location# -sample depth#. For example, if sampling occurs on May 1, 2012 and a sample
is collect at a depth of 2 feet from Location 5, the sample would be labeled: 120501-5-2.
5.4 Chain -of -Custody
A chain -of -custody record will be completed by the field representative and shall accompany all
sample shipments. Shipped samples will have a custody seal placed across the lid of each
sample container. All custody seals will be signed and dated.
.• a •I &I IT•
All sample containers will be placed in an appropriate shipping container and will have the
drain plug sealed, if applicable, to prevent melted ice from leaking out of the cooler. If ice is
used to cool the samples, the ice will be packed in a double zip -lock bag. Special care will be
provided to secure and prevent damage to the sample containers.
5.6 Data Evaluation
Because the holding times for the majority of the proposed analyses are at least 14 days,
following receipt of the initial surface soil data, the data will be reviewed and compiled
immediately so that decisions can be made on further analyses of the subsurface samples.
Any soil sample that shows one or more anomalously elevated constituent concentrations will
be selected for further depth profile analysis.
Once the analytical results are received and evaluated, a sampling report and antidegradation
analysis will be prepared, describing the nature of the waste and discuss the analytical results.
The report will include a description of the site hydrogeology, site specific soil, and groundwater
data; a discussion of fate and transport mechanisms for the monitored constituents; and a
description of data reduction/analysis techniques and results.
The report will also include a discussion of the clean closure. Clean closure will include
excavating soil in the pilot area to a depth appropriate to remove contamination that may have
occurred and placing this excavated soil in appropriate waste management units at the site.
WFORWARD LANDFILL LAND APPLICATION 13
