2.1.7 Surface Water Monitoring
Site run-on and run-off control facilities are designed to effectively channel surface water
to site stormwater/sedimentation ponds. According to the Operations Manager, there
were no discharges to surface water during the reporting quarter. On April 24, 2012, Del-
Tech reported that both surface-water monitoring stations FSW-1 and FSW-2 were dry.
2.2 SUMMARY
Groundwater quality conditions beneath the Forward Unit during the second quarter 2012
monitoring period are generally similar to those observed in previous monitoring periods.
During the second quarter 2012 monitoring period, DIPE was measured above its PQL in
the samples collected from wells MW-2A and MW-16. In addition, PCE and TCE were
measured at estimated trace concentrations in the sample collected from well MW-14.
CLs were exceeded for constituent concentrations in wells MW-2A, MW-13, MW-14,
MW-15, and MW-16. Excluding non-impact constituents and low-level VOCs,
confirmation sampling for chloride in well MW-13 and barium in well MW-14 will be
performed in August 2012 during the third quarter 2012 monitoring event, and in
September 2012. The results of the confirmation sampling will be provided under
separate cover.
3.0 AUSTIN UNIT
3.1 WATER QUALITY MONITORING
3.1.1 Sampling and Laboratory Analyses
During the second quarter 2012, depth-to-water measurements were recorded and the
Austin Unit's DMP and CAP groundwater monitoring wells were sampled by Del-Tech
on May 3 and 4, 2012. Surface water stations ASW-1 and ASW-2 were sampled on May
4, 2012.
Samples were collected from each sample point with sufficient liquid and submitted to
BC for analysis of the parameters stipulated in RWQCB Order No. R5-2003-0049. Table
2-1 presents the monitoring schedule and summarizes the analytical methods utilized
during the current monitoring period. Water quality samples were also analyzed in the
field for ORP, turbidity, temperature, specific conductance, and pH and recorded on well
data sheets. The groundwater monitoring wells and leachate were sampled in accordance
with the sampling and analysis procedures detailed in Appendix B. The well data sheets,
raw laboratory data, certificates of analyses, and chain-of-custody records related to the
sampling program are included in Appendix C. Field and laboratory analyses are
summarized in Tables 3-1 through 3-6.
C:\2012-0025TA_2Q 12.doc 7 Geo-Logic Associates
