2. Rinse the pH probe and tempemture probe with d6onized water then place in the pH 7
solution,
3. Adjust the meter for the appropriate temperature then*read the pH.
4. If required use the "calibrate" adjustment on the meter to correct the instTurner, to read
PH 7- -
5. Rinse the pH and temperatureprobes with de€o ' .water and place in the pH to
solution {note: at Forward landfill groundwater pH is usually above 7 therefore it is
appropriate to use the Ph 14 standard If the pH is below 7 them the pH 4 standard Should
be used}
& Use the "slope"adjustment to coarct the meter to properly read pH 10.
7. Repeat steps 2 to 6 until the meter reads pl.7 and I0 as closely as possible.
The calibration process will be recorded on a pH calibration tog. Copies of calf-br,atio.n logs for
each Individual.instrument are kept in a binder.at the office. The logs are reviewed periodically
to assess whether the instrument•is.becoming-more difficult to c abi brate and thcrefore.-needs -

adjustment'by the manufactm= or if new probes are re uired.
Conducxivi Meter
Conductivity-mcasurement is subject to variations due to temp=urc and 'instrument: drift. For _
this reason conductivity meters must be calibrated before and ager sampling on each day and at
least orace more during the day_ To calibrate a conductivity ureter the instrument reading is
4ustred to read correctlyforsolutions with a standard conductivity.
Standard c9nductiAty solutions are mixed fresh, according to package instructions, for each
sampling event.
