Although different brands of conductivity meters vary, calibration procedures are similar for ail
of them. A generalized calibration procedure follows: t
1: Turn on the instrument, check the battery, and allow to waren up if necessary.
2. Rinse the conductivity probe and temperature, probe with deionized water then place in
the standard solution. At ForWard Landfill conductivities are usually within Sao
to 1500
umhos/l,therefore the 1000 urnho&4 solution is appropriate to use, -
3. Adjust the meter for the appropriate conductivity scale and temperature then read the
conductivity.
4. If required usc,the "calibrate" adjustment on the meter to correct.the instnunenL to read
the correct conductivity. '
The calibration process will be,recorded on a conductivity calibration-log: Copies of calibration
logs for each individual-instrument arckcpt in-a:binder.-at-thc•office,-
711,6 109S'am reviewed-
periodically
eviewedperiodically to assess whether the. instrument is becoming more difficult to calibrate and
therefore needs adjustmenf by the manufactures,or if new probes are-required.
Tttrbidity Meter -
Turbidity measurement is subject to variations due to instrument drift_ For this reason turbidity
meters must be calibrated before and after sampling on each-day and at.least once more during
the day. ' To calibrate a turbidity .meter-the instrument.reading is adjusted to read correctly for
solutions with a standard turbidity.
Standard turbidity solutions are mixed fresh, according to pa£kage instructions, for each.
sampling event. Standard solutions for turbidity are commercially available. These standards -
are purdmsed finsh and discarded.af 1cr shelf life has expirad, Shelf lives vary dqmding on the
brand of standards used. If pre ed solution is used, the eViration date of the solution will
be noted on the ealt`w on log.
Although different brands of turbidity meters vary, calibration procedures are'similar for all of
them, A gerieraUud calibration procedure follows:
l. Turn on the' ent, check the battery, and allow to warm up if necessary. _-
1
E49-FO I N23 t OR325 A-4 July 14,2000
CoMilk 2000 KkWeldcr,jW
