patterns. The stockpile shall have a slope no greater than two horizontal to one
vertical and the top surface shall have a minimum 5 percent grade.
B. Selective Stockpiling:
1. The CONTRACTOR shall make all reasonable efforts to separately
stockpile fine grained materials suitable for use as the Clay Liner and Clay
Plug. Material suitable for use as protective operations layer shall be placed
in separate stockpile.
2. The QA/QC CONSULTANT may sample and analyze all stockpiles created
by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR.
3. If, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, the EARTHWORK
CONTRACTOR is not adequately separating excavated soil in accordance
with these Specifications, the QA/QC CONSULTANT may direct the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR to modify his stockpiling operation or may
order the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR to halt excavation and
stockpiling activities until adequate procedures can be developed.
4. Delays caused by inadequate stockpiling operation, as determined by the
QA/QC CONSULTANT, shall not be cause for an extension in the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's completion dates or cause for
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR change orders and all additional cost
associated shall be at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's sole expense.
3.7 SUBGRADE FILL
A. Place Subgrade Fill at locations shown on the Construction Drawings or as
directed by the QA/QC Consultant. Place material in lifts not exceeding 8-inch
uniform thickness. Each lift shall be compacted to a relative compaction of not
less than 90 percent(ASTM D1557).
B. During all compacting operations, maintain optimum practicable moisture content
required for compaction purposes in each lift of fill. Maintain uniform moisture
content throughout the lift. At the time of compaction, the water content of the
material shall be within 4 percent of the optimum moisture content.
C. Do.not attempt to compact fill material that contains excessive moisture. Aerate
material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other methods to hasten the drying
process.
3.8 GRADING AND SUBGRADE PREPARATION
A. This Work shall consist of fine grading and preparation of lining subgrade for the
construction of the base and side slope lining. The lining subgrade is further
defined as those areas and surfaces within the subgrade upon which lining
materials are to be placed.
1. Fine grading shall be performed to grade the subgrade to within the tolerances
Forward Landfill WMU FU-13
02300 12 EARTHWORK
