specified in Section 01410, SURVEYS. 2. The prepared subgrade surface shall be smooth and free of major irregularities. The subgrade should contain no exposed particles larger than 3 inches or other surface irregularities which, in the opinion of the QA/QC CONSULTANT, will damage the overlying GCL, or 60-mil HDPE geomembrane. 3. Overexcavation below the established lining subgrade by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall, at his expense, be backfilled with Clay Liner Material or General Earthfill Material as directed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. 4. Once completed, all traffic shall be kept off the lining subgrade. 5. The lining subgrade shall be maintained in the finished condition until the first succeeding course is placed. Any damage to the prepared lining subgrade by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be repaired, at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's expense. Any damage to the prepared lining subgrade by the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR, including those caused by a delay of the GEOSYNHETICS CONTRACTOR, shall be at the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR's expense. 6. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall notify the OWNER at least 3 working days in advance of when the subgrade is completed and ready for as- built surveys. The OWNER will survey the top of the base and slope subgrade in accordance with Section 01410, SURVEYS. The survey shall provide coordinates and elevations of the subgrade surface at a minimum of 75-foot centers and delineating prominent features. The results of the survey will be provided to the QA/QC CONSULTANT within 2 days of the survey for approval prior to placing overlying materials. The QA/QC CONSULTANT shall have 2 working days to review survey results and may independently verify survey results. The time taken by the QA/QC CONSULTANT in checking and verifying the survey results will be considered included in the total calendar days allotted the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR before liquidated damages are assessed. B. After completion of clay liner and subgrade fill,proof-roll the surface of the entire lined area with a loaded dump truck or similar heavy-wheeled equipment to detect soft or loose zones. Notify the QA/QC CONSULTANT prior to commencement of proof-rolling. If soft or loose zones are found, excavate the soft or loose material to a depth accepted by the QA/QC CONSULTANT, then fill with Clay Liner or General Earthfill, as appropriate. The Clay Liner or General Earthfill shall be compacted as specified for such fill. 3.9 CONSTRUCTION OF CLAY LINER A. General: I. Clay Liner Material shall be processed to meet the requirements of Article 2.4 of this Specification. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR may request ® information from the OWNER on successful processing and placement procedures used for the construction of previous WMUs at the Forward Landfill.
