The EIR for the CHWMP, which is the last chapter of the Plan, is
prepared in accordance with the requirements of Article 9 of the CEQA
Guidelines. Included in the EIR is a discussion of the anticipated
environmental impacts and recommended mitigation measures resulting
from implementation of the CHWMP.
1.7 PLAN REVIEW, APPROVAL, AND ADOPTION
Figure 1-1 outlines the process to be used for review, approval , and
adoption of the CHWMP. AB 2948 requires that the CHWMP be approved by
the County Board of Supervisors and a majority of the cities in the
county with a majority of the population. It must also be approved by
the DHS. Therefore, the Draft Plan was made available to the cities
and public for review and comment during the period from April through
June 1988. Based upon comments on the Draft CHWMP, the Plan was
revised and submitted with the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to
the County and the cities for their approval . Following its approval
at the local level , the CHWMP will be submitted to the DHS for
approval . Following DHS approval , the CHWMP must be adopted as an
element of the County General Plan and general plans of each of the
cities in the County.
Once the Plan is approved and adopted, it will need to be updated
regularly to reflect changes in the County' s hazardous waste stream
and modifications in management of these wastes. The first update of
the Plan is anticipated to occur in 1992.
PJ9 9390502D.00D
1-11 Rev. 1 11/08/88
