metals - 10, 311 tons, food wastes - 8, 606 tons, inerts -
64, 127 tons, and abandoned vehicles - 332 tons. At the time
of writing of this report, it appears that this diversion
activity may be counted toward reaching the County's waste
diversion goals. However, legislation is being drafted that
could restrict counting these activities toward meeting
diversion goals. Therefore, these diversionary activities and
quantities are not included in disposal or generation
calculations throughout this report, except when noted. It is
#` the intent of the County to establish all feasible programs
described in this Element. If, however, legislation and or
regulations allow counting these special wastes in 1995 or
after, the County will add the special wastes to its
calculations of waste diverted. If the special waste
activities were counted toward the goals, then the waste
diversion activities for 1990 would be calculated as shown in
Table 1-2 below.
TABLE 1-2
CALCULATION OF 1990 WASTE DIVERSION AND DISPOSAL
AC FOR UNINCORPORATED COUNTY
SPECIAL WASTE DIVERSION INCLUDED
MEASURED IN Torre
ACTIVITY TONS
DIVERSION
SOURCE REDUCTION 502 0.2
RECYCLING 13,811 6.1
COMPOST 2, 124 1. 0
SPECIAL WASTE 83 , 376 36.8
TOTAL DIVERSION 99,813 44.1
DISPOSAL
TRANSFORMATION 10,726 4.7
LANDFILL 115,856 51.2
TOTAL DISPOSAL 126, 582 55.9
TOTAL GENERATED 226, 395 100.0
Chapter 1 - Introduction 11
