Of this, 11.5% was diverted through source <br /> reduction, recycling and composting, and 7.5% by <br /> transformation. <br /> In 1990 the unincorporated area disposed of 115,856 tons <br /> of waste at permitted landfills, 10,726 tons at transformation <br /> facilities (see Table 2-5) , and diverted 16,437 tons through <br /> source reduction, composting, and recycling activities. Thus <br /> a total of 143,019 tons of waste were generated in the <br /> unincorporated area in 1990. <br /> In addition to the above, 83, 376 tons of special wastes <br /> were diverted in 1990.
