Landfill Gas Migration Monitoring Well Installation Report October 2009
North County Landfill Project No. 03160203
2.0 FIELD WORK
2.1 Permitting and Health and Safety
Vector was not responsible for any permitting. LFG Control Corporation (LFG
Control) was responsible for obtaining permits from EHD to drill and install the
landfill gas migration monitoring wells, which required submission of a Health and
Safety plan. Vector representatives attended the health and safety meeting held by
San Joaquin Public Works on July 20, 2009 at the NCSL.
2.2 Landfill Gas Migration Monitoring Well Installation
Landfill gas migration monitoring wells (SG-11 through SG-22) were installed by
LFG Control at the NCSL between July 20 and July 29, 2009. Table I presents the
as-built probe construction dimensions for the LFG monitoring probes. The
locations of the LFG migration monitoring wells were staked in the field by San
Joaquin Public Works personnel prior to drilling activities (Table 2). LFG Control
subcontracted the drilling to PC Exploration out of Rocklin, California, who used
two hollow stem auger rigs. The probes were completed to depths ranging from 75
feet to 87 feet using Mobile B-61 and Ingersoll Rand A-400 drill rigs equipped with
8-inch hollow-stem augers.
Vector representatives were onsite during all drilling and well construction. EHD
staff was onsite during well construction and backfill activities to inspect the probe
installation met permit specifications. Soil cuttings from drilling were spread out
on site after completion of the wells. LFG Control was responsible for transporting
the cuttings from the wells in the mitigation area (SG-11 through SG-16) to an
acceptable disposal site.
2.2.1 Soil Logging and Sampling
The soil cuttings were logged by Vector personnel while drilling, according to the
40 Uniform Soils Classification System Description and Identification of Soils Visual-
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 143E Spring Hill Drive • Grass Valley, CA 95945•(530)272-2448
2
