3 . Machinery shall not be serviced, repaired or adjusted while in i <br /> operation, nor shall oiling of moving parts be attempted, <br /> except on equipment that is designed or fitted with safeguards <br /> to protect the person performing the work. <br /> 4 . Where appropriate, lock-out procedures shall be used. <br /> 5. Employees shall not work under vehicles supported by jacks or <br /> chain hoists, without protective blocking that will prevent <br /> injury if jacks or hoists should fail. <br /> 6. Air hoses shall not be disconnected at compressors until hose <br /> line has been bled. <br /> 7. Heavy construction equipment (general) : <br /> a. Repairs must not be made to powered equipment until <br /> workers are protected from movement of the equipment or <br /> its parts. <br /> b. Wherever mobile equipment operation encroaches upon a <br /> public thoroughfare, a system of traffic controls must be <br /> used. <br /> C. Flagmen (wearing orange vests) are required at all <br /> locations where barricades and warning signs cannot <br /> control the moving traffic. <br /> d. Jobsite vehicles must meet design requirements as <br /> follows: <br /> - Operable---service, emergency, and parking brake. <br /> - Two operable headlights and taillights for night <br /> operation. <br /> - Windshield wipers and defogging equipment as <br /> required. <br /> - Seatbelts are required if the vehicle has Roll-Over <br /> Protection Structures (ROPS) . <br /> - Fenders or mud flaps are required. <br /> e. Vehicles (and systems) must be checked for proper <br /> operation at the beginning of each shift. <br /> 8 . Roll-Over Protection (ROPS) and Seat Belts. <br /> ROPS and seat belts are required for the following equipment <br /> with a brake horsepower rating above 20: <br /> crawler tractor <br /> bulldozer <br /> front end loader <br /> motor grader <br /> scraper <br /> tractor (except side boom pipe laying) <br /> 7 - <br />
