Only qualified trained personnel are permitted to handle
special materials. Personnel handling special materials are required to wear safety vests, safety
glasses, hard hats, gloves, and proper footwear.
In case of an accident that includes injury to County or CAR staff, an accident report is filed and
appropriate action taken to minimize the potential for future similar accidents.
7.6.5 Treated Wood Waste
The Waste Discharge Requirements allow for the disposal of treated wood waste at the landfill.
Treated wood waste includes pressure -treated and creosote -coated wood.
When received, pressure treated wood is disposed at the active face when it can be
covered by other refuse. If pressure -treated wood is received at the Recycling Center
when the active face is not open, then this material is stored in a bin for disposal when the
active face is open.
Treated wood waste is not handled in the Green Waste processing facility. If discovered there,
pressure -treated wood waste is transported to the active landfill face for disposal.
At this time, the County has opted not to dispose of creosote -coated wood at the NCRC&SL. If
received, such material is delivered to the County Household Hazardous Waste Facility for
disposal elsewhere.
North County RC&SL Page 62 of 68 Public Works/Solid Waste
Joint Technical Document County of San Joaquin — October 10, 2014
