b
COHOLLOW LANDFILL 9 March 1988
• SWAT PROPOSAL REVIEW - -
5. All monitoring well PVC casing and screens are to be National Sanitation
Foundation (NSF) approved.
6. All deep monitoring wells (casings and screens) are to be suspended from the
surface during construction and are not to rest on the bottom of the
borehole.
7. The non-metals analyses methods proposed for the water quality program are
generally used for soil analysis procedures. To possibly save some of the
analytical costs and to get better detection limits, we recommend using the
following methods for the water analyses:
Comp® Proposed Anallsis Recommended Analysis
Wipes Method Method
Volatile Organics 8240 601 & 602
Semi-Volatile Organics 8270 625
Pesticides & PCBs 8080 608
Analysis of the above compound types shall identify and report all peaks.
8. The metal analyses recommended for Atomic Absorption methods should include
chromium".
9. To better characterize the unsaturated zone, the lithology and the soil-pore
liquids, we recommend that MW-4 and W-5 have soil samples taken every five
feet with the split-spoon sampler. The samples could then be split and a
®. composite made for each of these monitoring wells. The composite sample
a would be used for soil-pore liquid analysis.
10. The proposed soil sampling points are insufficient to fully characterize the
unsaturated zone at the site, specifically, along the property line adjacent
,`, to Corral Hollow Creek. To fill this data gap, recommend making at least
d three additional equally spaced soil sample borings along this property
line. The borings should be performed using a HSA with samples taken every
five feet to a depth of at least 35 feet. A composite from each boring can
be made for performing all analysis for the sampling point. If perched water
is encountered during boring, consideration should be given to constructing a
monitoring well in the borehole.
Ill. Soil samples should also be analyzed for the 26 ICA metals, with arsenic,
selenium, mercury, and chromium+d analyzed using the Atomic Absorption
method.
12. All non-metal analyses methods for the soil and water sampling program are to
identify and report all pollutant scan peaks.
