Equipment calibration data is presented in Appendix I .
5. 1 .2 Nitrogen Test
Before performing any quality assurance testing, the ultrapure nitro-
gen used in the testing was analyzed by GC for the 10 VOCs specified
in the Guidelines. No VOCs were detected. The analytical report is
provided in Appendix I . Nitrogen tests are designated by N2 BLANK.
5. 1.3 Tedlar Bag Preparation
The bags were checked for leaks by placing a weight on the nitrogen
filled bags and observing whether the weight lowered. To ensure that
each Tedlar bag was free of contamination, it was flushed five times
with previously tested ultrapure nitrogen filtered through charcoal .
In addition, 20 percent of the bags prepared for use in the sampling
program were tested by GC for contamination with these same VOCs.
Analytical reports are included in Appendix I . Bag tests are desig-
nated by three pairs of numbers (example, 34-38-11) . No bag used in
the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill sampling program was contaminated
or leaking.
5. 1.4 Phu 1p Blanks
To verify that the pumping system, consisting of the pump, piping,
needle valve, and rotometer, was clean, a pump blank was analyzed for
each pump used in the testing program. Before testing the pumps, the
sampling systems were cleaned by passing heated, charcoal -filtered
nitrogen through the pump and tubing for at least 12 hours. Pump
blank testing involved passing ultrapure nitrogen through the pump
system directly into a GC. - The gas was then analyzed for the 10 VOCs
listed in the Guidelines. None of those compounds were found above
the detection limits in the pumps used in the Corral Hollow Sanitary
Landfill sampling program. Analytical reports are included in
PJ9 9390304.00D 5-2 Rev. 0 09/20/88
