r]
1
nipple and withdraw a sample. If the Gastech meter reads organics in
concentrations greater than 1 percent as methane, then the reading will
be recorded and the testing considered complete. If, however, the meter
displays a reading which is less than 1 percent, the organic vapor
analyzer will be attached to the probe and the reading will be recorded.
FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
Pump Blanks
At least 10 percent of all bags used in the field for sample collection
will be tested by collecting an ultrapure nitrogen sample in the bag and
analyzing the sample for the volatile organic compounds specified in the
Guidelines (see Table 1) by GC.
PJI 9390301 15
i
A pump blank will be taken and analyzed for each pump utilized in the
field sampling program to verify that uncontaminated samples are
obtained during the sampling event.
A pump blank consists of clean nitrogen gas passed through the pump
system directly into a gas chromatograph to be analyzed for the
10 compounds listed in the Guidelines. If contaminants are present,
heated air will be passed through the pump and piping system for up to
12 hours and a new pump blank will be taken. This procedure will be
repeated until an uncontaminated pump blank is obtained.
Tedlar Bag Preparation
Each Tedlar bag will be flushed a minimum of 5 times with ultrapure
nitrogen which is run through a charcoal filter. Each nitrogen tank
used will be analyzed by GC for the volatile organics specified in the
Guidelines (see Table 1).
At least 10 percent of all bags used in the field for sample collection
will be tested by collecting an ultrapure nitrogen sample in the bag and
analyzing the sample for the volatile organic compounds specified in the
Guidelines (see Table 1) by GC.
PJI 9390301 15
i
