The field
blank will be sent to the lab, along with the other samples for the day,
and analyzed in the same manner as all other samples. There will be one
field sample for each day of sampling.
Recordkeeping and Sample Custody
In the interest of data quality, appropriate records will be kept on all
activities that can affect sample integrity. Operation records for the
programmable clock controller and wind utility system, and a flow rate
curve chart will be kept with the sampler at all times. Sampling
records containing date, time, flow rate, location, and comments at
sampling start and finish will be kept with each sample bag. Chain -of -
custody information will also be included with the samples.
Chain -of -custody records will be initiated at the time of sampling and
will contain the following information:
• Sample identification number
• Date and time of sampling
• Type of container
• Name of sampler(s)
The chain -of -custody form will be signed, timed, and dated by the sam-
pler when transferring possession of the samples. An example of the
chain -of -custody record is included in Appendix C. Custody transfers
will be recorded for each sample; for example, if samples are split and
sent to multiple laboratories, a record sheet will accompany each sam-
ple. To minimize handling of samples and to maintain sample integrity,
the number of custodians in the chain of possession will be minimized.
PJI 9390301 ,
