to include daily cover soil, are estimated to be one third
of the original gate volume. This estimation was made using
data obtained from similar sites.
To date, a detailed estimation of the Corral Hollow
Sanitary Landfill compaction factor has not been performed.
This factor will be determined in the future using land or
aerial survey methods to calculate the change in landfilled
waste over time. This change will be compared to gate
quantities to determine the actual compaction factor for the
landfill at that time.
b) Waste Settlement Rate:
Information on settlement at the landfill is contained on
pages 14 and 15 of the Closure Plan for the site, which is
contained as B to the RWD for the site. The RWD is included
as Appendix C of this Engineering Review. The actual waste
settlement rate at the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill has
not been determined.
c) Ratio of Waste to Soil Volume:
The ratio of waste to soil volume used for design of the
landfill Closure Plan was 4: 1. This factor was estimated
based on soil requirement observations at similar landfill
operations. This factor assumes that intermediate cover in
excess of the 6 inches required for daily cover will be
stripped and reused when these areas are covered with
subsequent landfilling.
d.) Stockpiling of soil:
The soil required for operations and closure of the landfill
will be imported and stockpiled in northeast portion of the
site. This location is shown on Drawing 1 of the Closure
Plan. This stockpile will be used by the landfill
earthmoving scraper to obtain cover soils and will be
replenished with off-site soils as required.
e. ) Permeability of cover soil:
The soils used for daily or intermediate cover have
permeabilities which vary. The placement methods and
permeability of the final cover are discussed on pages 15
through 17 of the Closure Plan.
The soils used for the clay layer must have permeabilities
of 1 X 10-6 cm./sec. or less after field compaction.
