0
0
1
GRADING PLAN
Drawing 1 presents the final grading plan for the disposal site. The
final contours shown represent the grades after the final cover is
placed. Cross sections through the final grading plan are shown on
Drawing 2. Surrounding topography, existing waste fill, anticipated
refuse settlement, and minimum gradients for adequately draining the
completed fill were used to determine the plan's configuration.
The landfill has been divided into four fill modules which will be
constructed to the limits and in the sequence shown in the cross
sections on Drawing 2. The first module to be filled is the excavated
area in the central part of the landfill. The top of Module 1 will be
brought to the elevation of existing fill and sloped to the east for
drainage. Modules 2, 3, and 4 will be constructed on top of existing
fill areas to bring the landfill to final refuse grades.
Temporary drainage ditches or diversion berms will be constructed
during inclement weather periods to divert runoff from the landfill
working face. When the working face elevation is below the perimeter
ditch elevation (Module 1), ditches or berms will be constructed in
advance of the working face to divert runoff within the module. In
general, ditches or berms should be constructed on adjacent lifts to
prevent flow of runoff down onto the working face.
The closed landfill will be graded to provide slopes of no less than
5 percent to prevent ponding. This will maximize the landfill capaci-
ty while minimizing the erosion potential of the final landfill grade.
WASTE CONTAINMENT
Installing the final cover and drainage control system will provide a
means to contain waste and minimize moisture infiltration into the
landfill during the postclosure maintenance period. The postclosure
maintenance program will include regular site inspections and
PJ9 9390310.00D 5
