Increased Waste Quantities Project
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill
INITIAL STUDY
INTRODUCTION
This environmental document addresses the environmental issues
associated with increasing the amount of solid waste to be disposed
of at the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. The project of record
is an application to San Joaquin County Public Health Services for
a revised Solid Waste Facilities Permit. For purposes of
environmental review, the San Joaquin County Department of Public
Works is the Lead Agency for this project.
Contained within this document is a project description and the
Initial Study form. Incorporated into the Initial Study form is a
discussion of environmental issues by topic as necessary, and
proposed mitigation measures to avoid or reduce to insignificance
the potential environmental impacts associated with the project.
Also included as Appendix A are comment letters received on the
draft document and the Lead Agency's responses to the comments.
This document was prepared by Baracco and Associates (P.O. Box
1415, Sutter Creek, CA 95685, telephone 209/223-2357) under
contract with the Department of Public works, Solid Waste Division.
Bruce Baracco served as principal author.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill is an existing facility
operated by San Joaquin County. The landfill comprises
approximately 45 acres and is classified as a Class III Sanitary
Landfill.
THE PROJECT
The project of record under CEQA is a Revised Solid Waste
Facilities Permit to be issued by the Environmental Health Division
of San Joaquin County Public Health Services. The revised permit
will specify San Joaquin County as the owner and operator, and will
allow an average daily volume of 1, 200 cubic yards and a peak
volume of 1,800 cubic yards to be deposited at the landfill.
PROJECT LOCATION
The project site is located approximately five miles southwest of
the City of Tracy, in southwest San Joaquin County. The facility
is located on the south side of Corral Hollow Road just west of
Interstate 580. (Refer to Figure 1: Vicinity Map. )
3
