Green wastes, wood wastes and salvageable lumber wiH be <br /> stacked separately. Priority processing will be given to large quantities of green grass cuttings <br /> or any other material capable of rapidly turning anaerobic. <br /> 2. MAIERLkL PREPARATION <br /> Acceptable green wastes and wood wastes will be shredded and ground by an industrial-sized <br /> tub grinder located in the Grinding Area. Materials will be moistened prior togrinding to <br /> minimize dust. <br /> A front-end loader will move the materials from the Unloading Area to the Grinding Area on <br /> a first-in, first-out basis. Materials will be placed in the tub grinder by loader or knuckleboom. <br /> Some materials such as wet leaves and grass, which tend to clog a tub-grinder, will be mixed <br /> with dry, carbonaceous materials prior to grinding. Such materials may be transported directly <br /> to the Windrow Area for immediate mixing and windrowing to minimize anaerobic conditions. <br /> Materials will be placed in the tub grinder in an order that creates an optimum mix of materials <br /> for the particular product to be produced. Green wastes, wood wastes and any additive will be <br /> mixed and ground together to achieve optimum composting mixes with carbon to nitrogen ratios <br /> (C:N) of 25:1 to 30:1. On other occasions wood waste will be ground separately for such <br /> products as landscape chips, mulch and co-generation fuel. Contamination levels in the materials <br /> will be an important factor in determining the grinding procedures. Clean materials will be <br /> mixed in the tub grinder. Contaminated materials such as wooden pallets with nails and other <br /> metals will be ground, separated and transferred to a screen where the contaminant will be <br /> removed. <br /> Materials will be reduced to sizes of 1/4" - 4" based upon the type of material and the product <br /> to be produced. The tub grinder will be connected to a water delivery system for dust control <br /> and the addition of moisture to composting mixes to achieve optimum conditions of 50% - 60% <br /> moisture content by weight. <br /> Ground materials will be discharged from the tub grinder to the screen, roll-off container, truck <br /> or loader, depending on the next required processing function.
