reducing the potential for vehicle stacking to take place on public streets.
9. ASPERGH.LUS
Aspergillus fumigatus is a fungal organism that has been found in composting vegetative material
such as grass and tree clippings, woodchips, hay etc. and is often isolated from soil. The risk
from fungal organisms to workers or the general public is considered small, however the
following measures will be taken to reduce the risk of infection:
• Job applicants will be medically screened and those with any predispositions to such
conditions as diabetes, asthma, emphysema or tuberculosis may be excluded from
working at the Compost Facility.
• A worker cleanliness program will be established to include 1) washing hands before
eating and before returning home, 2) storing food in a safe location, 3) providing
showers and lockers on-site, 4) providing protective clothing, 5) cleaning protective
clothing.
® • Minimizing fugitive dust to the extent possible by good housekeeping, water sprinkling
and process control.
• Requiring Compost Facility workers to wear face masks or respirators while "posed to
high dust operations.
• Provide enclosed cabs for mobile equipment such as loaders and windrow turners.
• Separate public unloading areas from material processing operations.
L:/PROJECr/397/1-W/RC14.TCY December 15, 1993
34
