GROUNDWATER DIRECTION AND FLOW RATE
Shallow Aquifer
Groundwater elevations at wells SB-1, MW-4, MW-5 and PZ-1 indicate that groundwater flow in
the shallow water-bearing zone was bi-directional, to the northwest and to the southeast from well
SB-1 (Figure 2).
The average calculated groundwater velocity to the northwest between SB-1 and MW-5 is 0.71 ft/yr
based on a gradient of 0.0026 foot per foot. The average calculated groundwater velocity to the
southeast between SB-1 and MW-4 is 0.50 ft/yr based on a gradient of 0.0018 foot per foot
(Appendix G).
Deep Aquifer
The groundwater elevations at MW-6 and MW-7 indicate that groundwater flow is northeasterly
from MW-7 to MW-6 (Figure 3). The average calculated groundwater velocity is 0.59 ft/yr based on
a gradient of 0.0021 foot per foot(Appendix G).
STANDARD OBSERVATIONS
Site inspections were performed regularlyduring the quarter. A summary of the site observations is
enclosed(Appendix H). A signature on the form is the certification that all observations were
performed and are accurate.
RUN-OFF/RUN-ON FACILITIES
The Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill contains several facilities to control run-on and run-off. A
perimeter road encircling the site helps to prevent run-on. A mid-slope berm around the unit directs
run-off into the retention pond in the northwest corner of the site, and perimeter ditches at the base
of the unit directs run-off into the retention pond in the south-east comer of the site. During the first
quarter of 2004 there were no breeches in the run-off/run-on facilities. Monitoring will continue.
HISTORICAL TIMES SERIES PLOTS
As required, historical time series plots are included(Appendix F). Note that constituents that are
not detected are plotted at a value of half their respective detection limits. Outliers were included in
all plots as requested by RWQCB staff.
Corral Hollow Landfill Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
IsT Quarter 2004 Groundwater Monitoring 6 County of San Joaquin-April 15,2004
