Six VOCs were reported this quarter from MW-5, which continues the 3-year downward trend in the
number of VOCs reported. We expect the trend in the number of VOCs ("false positives" ignored)
to continue.
Trend analysis for concentrations of VOCs indicates a decreasing trend for two and an increasing
trend for three of the VOCs reported this quarter. The trend analysis method will continue to be
used quarterly in evaluating concentrations of VOCs in MW-5.
The LFG Collection System continues to effective) reduce the concentration of LFG(and
Y Y
associated VOCs) in the soil beneath the landfill.
Deems Aquifer
MW-6 (Down-gradient):
Inorganic constituent concentrations are within expected ranges(Table 2), including pH (8.69),
which was measured at 11.23 in August and 9.96 in October of 2003. The pH level is now similar to
the levels reported in the other deep aquifer wells (MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3) at the landfill before
these wells"went dry". The pH will be monitored closely. Concentration limits could not be
established due to insufficient data.
One VOC (Toluene)was reported this quarter. Since the concentration is a trace amount, the well
was not re-sampled.
MW-7 (Up-gradient):
Concentrations of inorganic constituents are within expected ranges (Table 2).
No VOCs were reported this quarter, same as the previous quarter.
Surface Water
First storm water samples were taken on February 17, 2004. During the first quarter monitoring
event, which occurred on February 11, there was no flowing surface water to sample.
Statistical analysis shows that all constituents were within concentration limits where these could be
established. No VOCs were detected. The Nitrate concentration limit could not be determined
because there were greater than 50 percent non-detects. The tolerance limits of Carbonate
Alkalinity,Bicarbonate Alkalinity,Calcium, Potassium,Magnesium, and Sodium could not be
established because of insufficient data.
Corral Hollow Landfill Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
isT Quarter 2004 Groundwater Monitoring 5 County of San Joaquin-April 15,2004
