is not now covered by closure cap will be covered in the cover extension project (Figure 4). The
exposed sides of the pot-holes will be inspected for the layered prescriptive cover.
The existing closure cap clay barrier layer will be repaired either with bentonite-amended soil or
by placing geocomposite clay liner(GCL) in the excavation prior to replacing the excavated soil
(Figure 5). These repairs will be certified by an engineer licensed in the state of California.
Excavation of refuse will be avoided.
Once the extent of the present closure cap has been delineated sufficiently to define the scope of
work, the closure cap will be extended, and the drainage ditch relocated,to prevent further
percolation of rainwater through the refuse.
Work will be done in accordance with the previously-approved Safety Plan (attached).
Proposed Corrective Action
It is presently contemplated that corrective action will include extending the closure cap with GCL
from the edge of the existing closure cap to the approximate mid-point of the road(Figure 6). The
approach would include the placement of geocomposite clay liner (GCL) as hydraulic barrier from
the road to the edge of the existing closure cap. Placement of soil over the GCL will cause the
relocation of the road and drainage ditch.
Geocom osite Clay Liner Specifications
GCL Model Bentofix Thermal Lock NWL orequivalent
Bentonite content minimum 0.84 lb/ at 12% moisture
Grab Strength (minimum) 150 Ib average. roll value
Permeability maximum 5x10- cm/sec
NA1Corral Ho(low\PlanToEvallmpactToGWVnvestugation SeptMesultsR2.doc
Investigation of Groundwater Impact 4 San Joaquin County Public Works/Solid Waste
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill March 3,2006
