1 SECTION 01075
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION DEFINITIONS
A. ASTM International: An international standards organization that develops standards,
practices, guides, and test materials. Standards typically used for construction quality
control and quality assurance testing.
1 B. Backfill: Material placed in trenches or other excavation. Conform to applicable fill as
specified.
C. Batch: A quantity of resin, usually the capacity of one rail car, used in the fabrication of
LINEAR LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (LLDPE) geomembrane sheet. A roll
number corresponding to the particular quantity of resin used will identify the finished
sheet.
D. Bentonite: Clay soil, comprised primarily of sodium montmorillonite, characterized by high
swelling potential and low hydraulic conductivity.
E. Bridging: The condition when geomembrane becomes suspended over its subgrade due to
contraction of the material or poor installation
F. Borrow Excavation: Borrow excavation shall include excavation of materials from borrow
areas identified on the Construction Drawings for the purpose of obtaining fill materials.
The process may require exclusion of unsuitable materials and minor manipulation of
materials.
G. Bridging: Condition existing when the geosynthetic is not in contact with the underlying
material.
H. California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 27, Division 2 - Solid Waste: California
Regulations for treatment, storage, processing or disposal of waste.
' I. Coefficient of uniformity (Cu): Ratio of grain diameter (in millimeter [mm]) corresponding
to 60 percent passing (by dry weight) to the grain diameter (in mm) corresponding to
10 percent passing (by dry weight).
J. Cohesionless Materials: Materials classified by Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)
as GW, GP, SW, and SP. Materials classified as GM and SM will be identified as
cohesionless only when the fines have a plasticity index of zero.
K. Cohesive Materials: Materials classified by USCS as GC, SC, ML, CL, MH, and CH.
1 L. Construction Quality Assurance (CQA): A planned series of observations and tests to verify
that quality control functions have been performed adequately and determine compliance
with plans and specifications.
SHAW ENV/RONMENTAL, /NC.
San Joaquin County — Extension of Cap Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill — CH Closure Cap Ext Proj_ cchnical Specs -4-19-12 Revl .DocRev. 0, 04/05/2012
Technical Specification Definitions
01075-1
