2.06 CONCRETE SURFACE SEAL
A. The concrete surface seal shall consist of a mixture of Portland cement, sand,
coarse aggregate and clean water in the proportion of at least five sacks of cement
per cubic yard of concrete, with no more than seven gallons of water per sack of
cement.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
A. The boreholes shall be drilled as an exploratory boring to determine the groundwater
level, and investigate the nature of the subsurface strata. The exploratory boreholes
may be drilled by hollow stem auger methods. Split spoon samples shall be
collected on 5 -foot centers for geologic logging purposes.
B. The depth of the boreholes could be 120 feet deep or no more than 15 feet below
where the shallow groundwater is encountered. The actual depth shall be
determined in the field, based on where the water deep level is encountered.
3.02 DRILLING
A. The Contractor shall decontaminate the drilling rig and all drilling equipment
before drilling and monitoring well installation. The Contractor shall clear the
boring location of all brush and minor obstructions.
B. The Contractor shall collect split spoon samples on 5 -foot intervals for the on-site
geologist. The Contractor shall record on the Driller's Log all water bearing
zones, and zones or depths exhibiting drilling problems that may affect the well
installation.
C. At total depth, the Contractor shall remove soil cuttings prior to construction of
the well. The Contractor shall measure the total depth of the completed borehole
using a weighted sounding line. The borehole depth is to be checked by the
Contractor to assure that formation material has not heaved, or that caved -ins
have not entered the borehole. If heaving or cave-ins have taken place, the
Contractor shall clean out or re -drill the borehole before well installation.
D. In the event that the borehole was over-drilled, the bottom of the hole shall be
grouted with neat cement, bentonite pellets, or bentonite chips to raise the bottom
of the hole.
Corral Hollow EMP WPlan Rev2Mar 22-07.DOC Per 4 of 8 February 28, 2007
