C
The Solid Waste Division will obtain drilling permits from EHD. The Solid Waste
Division will notify EHD Unit 6 at least two working days in advance of drilling for
an inspection.
Drilling and completion of the well will be done by a licensed contractor
(Gregg Drilling Inc). The contractor will be responsible to comply with the work
plan prepared by Shaw Environmental and construct wells per the construction
specifications and drawings.
An underground service alert will requested prior to any drilling in the proposed
work area.
The locations of the groundwater wells and temporary borings will be staked by a
land surveyor. The locations of the temporary borings will staked to an
approximate location.
Characterization of materials encountered during drilling will be performed by
inspection above original grade. Workers will not break the plane of a drilling
location with mouth or nostrils unless the safety of the excavation is first
monitored to verify that the environment meets OSHA requirements for oxygen
and combustible gas. Such monitoring will be with portable electronic test
equipment designed for that purpose with (Lantec GEM or equivalent).
Workers will not perform work that involves sources of combustion (such as
welding equipment) or any other work that generates temperatures that could
ignite methane, unless the safety of the area has been verified.
Any open excavations deeper than three feet will be covered with a one -inch
thick piece of plywood at the end of the working day. The edges of the plywood
will be sealed around with soil to prevent landfill gas from escaping into the
atmosphere. The plywood covered area will also be flagged with warning tape. A
boring log will be compiled during the drilling of al the wells.
In the event that the oil pipeline which runs along the work area is ruptured when
drilling, the owner of the pipeline (Russell Guidry 310-816-2063 ) will be
immediately contacted.
Health & Safety Plan San Joaquin County
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill Public Works Department
Page 4 of 5 Solid Waste Division
